On 2 September 2026, an Indian Flapshell Turtle (a Schedule I species protected by Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972) was rescued from Durgapur by Mr. Manish Kumar Chattopadhyay, of WINGS. After ensuring the turtle was safe and healthy, it was successfully released into a suitable natural habitat on the outskirts of Durgapur, where it can continue its life in the wild.

Every rescue and safe release is a small but meaningful step towards protecting our native wildlife and promoting human-wildlife coexistence.

If you find any turtle or any other wild animal in an unusual or unsafe location, please do not harm, capture, or disturb it unnecessarily. Please inform WINGS or Forest Department so that appropriate guidance and assistance can be provided for the animal’s safe rescue and release.
