POSH Policy (Prevention of Sexual Harassment)

Durgapur Wildlife Information and Nature Guide Society (WINGS) is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for everyone. In line with the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, WINGS has adopted a comprehensive Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Policy effective from 20 April 2025 (POSH Policy_WINGS.pdf).

Key Objectives

  • Prevent and prohibit sexual harassment at all WINGS workplaces and activities.
  • Provide a fair, confidential, and effective redressal mechanism for complaints.
  • Promote a culture of dignity, equality, and mutual respect.

Who is Covered

The Policy applies to, among others:

  • Employees (permanent, temporary, contractual, and part-time).
  • Consultants, interns, volunteers, fellows, and trainees.
  • Board and management members.
  • Third parties such as vendors, partners, donors, and visitors.

It covers conduct in office premises, field sites, trainings, meetings, travel, and virtual/online platforms (see Policy).

Internal Committee (IC)

In accordance with the POSH Act, WINGS has constituted an Internal Committee (IC) to receive and inquire into complaints of sexual harassment at the workplace.

  • Chaired by a senior woman Presiding Officer.
  • Includes members committed to the cause of women and gender equity.
  • Has an external woman member from an NGO/association.
  • At least 50% of IC members are women, with a tenure of up to three years.

Contact the Internal Committee

For any concerns or complaints related to sexual harassment, individuals may reach out to the IC through the official WINGS communication channels.

Email: wildwingsbengal@gmail.com

How to Raise a Complaint

  • Submit a written complaint to the Internal Committee, ordinarily within three months from the date of the incident (or last incident in case of a series).
  • Where needed, reasonable assistance will be provided to the aggrieved woman in making a written complaint.
  • At the aggrieved woman’s request, the IC may attempt conciliation (without monetary settlement as the basis), failing which a formal inquiry is conducted.
  • The IC follows principles of natural justice, maintains strict confidentiality, and submits its report with recommendations for appropriate action (full details in Policy).
